  Exam Structure

The two AS exams have two different formats though both challenge and stretch the individual. Students are asked to relate their study of sociology to their every day life, substantiate their ideas with literature, demonstrate sociological thought.

Individual and Society 2532
This is the first exam that the students sit (January). The examination paper consists of two four- part structured questions, of which the candidates must answer one. The structured question is divided into parts in a manner that provides a logical sequence for development of the answer. In the case of the Individual and Society paper the candidates usually have a stimulus that relates the first two sections of the question and then two essay type sections.

Culture and Socialisation 2533
This exam is set on the same day as the 2532 (if 2532 is retaken in May). The examination paper consists of eight two part structured questions, two for each option. Candidate must answer two questions, chosen from either one or two options.

Research Report: 2535
The Research report is offered as an alternative to the written examination unit 2534 (Sociological research skills). The coursework requires students to write a 1000 word report on a short piece of sociological research which they have chosen.
